Today we had a planning session. Erik’s waited long enough for a more exciting and interesting layout, so we sat down today with some basic scenery, some track pieces and the centre board to work out how he’d like it to look eventually.
First, we planned the motive power depot, or engine shed side. A trailing cross-over between the main lines and a two-road engine shed plus a stub siding to the water tower. There is also provision to lengthen the engine shed.
Then we looked at the goods shed side. Again, a trailing cross-over and a fan of sidings, two of which have goods sheds.
We’ve since been advised that a head shunt would be advisable and would increase operating interest. That’s under serious consideration.
In the meantime, we’ve got a shopping list of track parts that need to be added to the layout before we can get to this point!
