Port Wynnstay Hoppers
Many moons ago, I bought one of these kits and laid it down to mature. At this year’s 7mm NGA AGM & Convention, I bought two more and resolved to batch build them as a rake of three. Well, that actually happened, and I mostly followed the instructions.
Phil Traxson’s instructions are among the best of the smaller manufacturers, and his castings remain as crisp and clean as ever. The model required very little cleaning and was glued together as advised, using superglue.
However, the details were left off whilst the model was sprayed with satin black paint. In addition, fluid lead was added at the bottom of each hoppers, to lower the centre of gravity and add much needed weight to the wagon.
The modified Ratio Plate Frame Bogies are designed to use, and come with, tension lock couplings. However, I use H0 Kadees, set using their 205 Height Gauge. The constructions of these wagons is currently on hold while I work out how to do this.
