Pulling It Together

After a hiatus over the summer, and the first week of school behind us, it was time to get the layout moving again. The next step, having fitted the pattern makers dowels, was to pull it all together.

Clas Ohlson sent some over-centre catches and castors. With the catches fitted to the edges and the castors underneath, the boards now fitted together easily, and stayed there.

A deliberate additional precaution was to arrange the boards so that they could be arranged modularly.

Two outer boards All three boards

As they are destined to hold a Hornby trainset-style layout, with the semi-circular returns entirely on the outer boards, they can be placed together, without the straights and sidings in the centre, to create a circular test track as well.

The next step is to add cork sheet under where the track will go.
