Corner Boards Assembled
Flushed with the success of the straight boards, it was time to tackle the corner boards. As a precaution, which proved to be unnecessary, the sides were thoroughly wetted and bent, in the hope that they wouldn’t crack or split during assembly.
Other than the precaution of pinning the joints whilst the glue dried, these boards were assembled again in accordance with the instructions.
In this case, the top surface also acts as a jig, rather than being added as the last piece, and again two parallel lengths of Slug Tape were applied before adding the centre stretchers.
The final step was to add a fillet of glue along the inside of every joint and tidy up using a damp rag, just to reinforce them.
As previously mentioned, the sides were thoroughly wetted and bent in advance of being glued in place. However, this was an unnecessary precaution in hindsight.
It was not felt necessary to install the diagonal braces on either the straight boards or the corner ones, due to the dimensions of the boards. If any larger boards are acquired, that maybe need to be reconsidered.
Similarly, the fascia boards have not been fitted at this stage, and may not ever be. They are a nice touch but, given the quality of the kit and the standard of finish that can be attained, it’s just as easy to tidy up the outer face and paint it.
